The perfect crunchy treat to snack on. A festive and simple dessert to serve or bring to your next holiday party–or to give as gifts this year.

What´s Chocolate Salame? Chocolate Salame is a Portuguese dessert made from cocoa, biscuits, and a bit of port wine or rum. Some varieties also contain chopped nuts, such as almonds, or hazelnuts and may be shaped like truffles. In Portugal, they are typically made using  Marie Cookies. But, since Marie Cookies are not vegan, I used Tostadas Cookies. If you are having trouble finding vegan substitutes for Marie Cookies, you can use digestive cookies.

Steps

1
Done

Place the cookies in a large ziplock bag and crush them using a rolling pin until you have small and coarse crumbs;

2
Done

Transfer the crumbs to a large bowl. Add 250gr of vegan butter, cacao powder, vegetable drink, and salt (and more sugar if you need to). Combine everything with your hands until a thick dough is formed;

3
Done

Roll the mixture into a sausage shape. If your mixture doesn't hold shape, leave it in the fridge for about 5 minutes to cool slightly;

4
Done

Spread vegan butter and 3 tbsp of sugar in a large piece of parchment paper (Long enough to roll the salame)

5
Done

Place the salame on the parchment paper sheet. Once you have given the right shape, roll it to form a large cylindrical candy.

6
Done

Place the salame into the fridge and let them cool for 3 hours or until it holds shape and can be easily cut with a sharp knife.
