Peixinhos da Horta is a traditional dish in Portuguese cuisine. The name of the dish is literally translated as “Little garden fishes”, as it resembles small pieces of fish. It was introduced to Japan by Portuguese sailors in the sixteenth century, where it was eventually developed into tempura.

Steps

1
Done

Start by cutting the tips of the green beans, so that they are all the same size;

2
Done

Place a saucepan on medium-high heat, and add water seasoned with salt. As soon as it boils, add the green beans and cook for about 10 minutes (until al dente). Then drain the water and set aside;

3
Done

In a bowl, make the batter by adding the rest of the ingredients and 250mL of water. Mix everything together, involving the ingredients. Season with more salt and pepper to taste.

4
Done

In a frying pan, put the olive oil and let it heat up well. Dip the green beans in the batter, let it drain, and then fry about 5 minutes on each side;

5
Done

Place the green beans in a plate with absorbent paper. Repeat these steps until the batter and green beans are finished. Serve them with tomato rice!

Note: since the batter has no eggs, you may have to fry the "peixinhos da horta" two times. After frying them for the first time, cover them with the batter again and fry for the second time.
